Derek Oland is the Executive Chairman of Moosehead Breweries Limited with corporate offices and brewery located in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.  Mr. Oland joined Moosehead Breweries in 1961 and has held a number of positions with the company including President and CEO.  In 1997 when Mr. Oland was appointed Chairman of Moosehead, he became the fifth generation member to lead the family company.

In addition to his responsibilities at Moosehead, Mr. Oland is Chairman of McAuslan SPEQ Inc. and of Emera, an energy company whose subsidiaries include Nova Scotia Power Inc. and Bangor (Maine) Hydro.  He has recently been appointed Chairman of the G. Wallace F. McCain Institute for Business Leadership as well as Chairman of the Imperial Theatre Campaign.

Mr. Oland is active in community affairs serving on the Boards of the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, the Imperial Theatre Campaign Committee and the Saint John Business Anti-Poverty Initiative.  In November 2006 Mr. Oland received the New Brunswick Red Cross Humanitarian Award.  In June of 2007 he was named an Officer of the Order of Canada.

He was educated at Rothesay Collegiate School and the University of New Brunswick (BBA 1962) and is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management Program. In 1998, Mr. Oland received an Honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of New Brunswick. 

Mr. Oland and his wife, Jacqueline, have four sons, two of whom serve in management positions with Moosehead Breweries.
